I began shooting with a handmade cardboard pinhole camera crafted in my high school photography class. Through high school I used my mom’s manual Canon camera, hand winding my own film into recycled canisters in the high school dark room. This is where I learned to ‘dodge and burn’ with a piece of paper masking taped to a paperclip, long before the days of Photoshop.
Though I didn’t take any photography classes in art school, I continued to shoot as part of my painting process. My painting, printmaking and art history studies informed my photography. Several years ago I took an intermediate photography course at Langara College but what has been most influential is shooting alongside my husband Richard Warrington. I currently shoot with a Nikon D300 and edit in Aperture using my Mac.
